Mark in a rarely seen suit and tie - looking smart!

Hi – I’m Mark Lytle Hiratsuka and I’m the co-founder of Eigo Factory. Professionally, I’m a grad-school qualified journalist and have been writing for magazines, newspapers and websites all over the world for almost twenty years.

While I specialize in technology from cell phones to supercomputers, I’ve worked in fields as diverse as sports, cinema, medicine and PR. Personally, my favorite stories have always involved meeting and interviewing small company owners here in Japan.

My clients have included NHK, BBC, CNN, The Guardian, International Herald Tribune, Popular Science, Wired, Asahi Shimbun, Dell, Sharp and many more. I’m also a published fiction writer – that’s a lot more fun than writing about machines!

On the leisure side of life, I enjoy cricket, soccer and trips to the countryside with my young family. We have a house in Yamanashi beside the wonder that is Oshino Hakkai (忍野八海) – drop by anytime!

I’m Gavin Beath and I’m the co-founder of Eigo Factory. I’ve lived in Japan for about eight years and during my time I have been involved in many different business activities such as auditing quality management systems for food manufacturers based around Japan, translating operation manuals for medical devices and analytical instruments and teaching English to many different businesses and private students around Tokyo.

While I have been busy in my professional life, I am also heavily involved in sports in Japan. Currently, I am a proud representative of the Japanese national cricket team as an overseas player and I have spent much of my time involved  growing the popularity of the sport in Japan.

We usually have to travel all the way to Shizuoka-ken to play a game and recently took part in several international tournaments abroad as part of qualifying for the World Cup.

Mascot

Pikarin-kun

Pi~kun

Pi~kun is our mascot and comes in many guises.

Pikarin-kun has been with us since early 2005 and is an invaluable member of the team. As a well-known face in Tokyo, his ability to be in many places at once comes in handy. Originally, designed by Jon at Pikkles, Pi-kun has been developed by Souzouzone and Andrew at Forbidden Colour as well over the years.
